Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players:
A multi-media musical experience for the whole family |
An indie-vaudeville-conceptual-art-rock-slideshow band, The Trachtenburgs are a domestic trio (dad Jason, mom Tina Piña, 12-year-old daughter Rachel), who play quirky indie pop songs in the key of unironic good, clean fun with one major catch: All the songs carefully rhyming lyrics come from the vintage slide collections theyve found at estate or garage sales that accompany their performances. Whats more, from their retro fashion sense to their disavowal of modern conveniences, the Trachtenburgs are a charming relic: a vintage throwback to simpler, more self-sufficient, family-oriented times just like their music. Also playing are The Chuck Hestons.
$10 or $8 with a canned food for Hartford Food Not Bombs. $5 kids under 12.

Frijoles Colorados / Red Beans written by Cristina Rebull Pradas |
In this outlandish comedy, an elderly couple, who live locked in an abandoned mansion, find themselves in a frustrating situation--chronic hunger and the challenge of cooking red beans that were placed in a pot a century ago. To make matters worse, Federico and Matilde are hounded by an intruder and begin to speculate what will happen when the unknown "entity" appears. Theatre of the absurd at its best! This play will be performed entirely in Spanish. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 seniors, Charter Oak & Let*s Go! Members, and $5 for students. |

Frijoles COLORADOS
Judy Dworin Dance Performance Ensemble: The Witching Hour |
Join the Judy Dworin Performance Project in collaboration with the Antiquarian and Landmarks Society for the premiere of The Witching Hour as history is brought to the present through the stories of 1600's Hartford area women accused as witches. The Witching Hour challenges the silencing of non-conformist voices historically and in the present moment as it raises the gender implications of Hartford's own witchcraze. Larger than life size puppets, sets, and costumes by Anne Cubberly create a visual landscape for the innovative blend of dance, text and music for which the Judy Dworin Performance Ensemble is known. Tickets are 20 general admission, $10 seniors, Charter Oak & Let*s Go! Members, and $5 for students. |

El Super by Ivan Acosta |
El Super is a warmhearted look at the plight of a Cuban family in New York: Roberto, Aurelia and their 17 year old daughter, Aurelita. It’s February, the winter is harsh, especially as experienced in their barely-heated basement apartment. For ten years Roberto has been the super of the apartment building, firing up the boiler, repairing windows and moving bags of garbage. “The Super” feels lonely, homesick and totally out of place in New York. He longs to return to his homeland - or at least to Miami - where it doesn’t snow. He is determined to find a solution that will give him and his family a better life. This play will be performed entirely in Spanish. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 seniors, Charter Oak & Let*s Go! Members, and $5 for students. |
| Viernes 16 y Sabado 17 de Noviembre a 8 p.m. |
