Staged reading of the musical Purpose Café, written by Tianna Glass and Charmagne Tripp. $10.
From the authors: “Purpose Café is a musical that follows the lives of a group of singers, poets, writers, comedians and artists in Hartford. The story takes place at Renee’s, a hot restaurant with a popular weekly open-mic night. This is where the neighborhood’s local artists have a bite to eat, share their gifts and try to find their purpose. The story is narrated by a down-on-her-luck gossip blogger who fills us in on the lives of the amorous host, the business woman at a crossroads, two lovers embarking on something new, the pianist with a secret, and the stream of performers that keep the soul of Renee’s alive.”
Features poems and songs written by Marquis Johnson, Tracy Caldwell, Lynette Johnson, Lenise Smith, Latoya Bosworth. Performing are: Tianna Glass, Famecia Ward, Crystal Senter Brown, Will Thomas, Lynn Simon-Thomas, Darlene Brandon, Diwan Glass, Tarishi Shuler and Jessica Simpson.
The performance is followed by a talk back with writers and actors.
