African Film Series: Monday’s Girls
This film explores the conflict between modern individualism and
traditional society in today’s Africa through the eyes of two young
Waikiri women from the Niger Delta. The film calls in
to question the notion of a single “ethnographically correct”
representation of traditional rituals, showing instead that they are
polysemous texts whose meaning is constantly negotiated.
