Our third and final installment in this three-part
conversation/demonstration series is a preview of our
Spring Dance season including Judy Dworin, Katie

Moderated by Jill Henderson.

Tanat L’vat Yiftach: A Ritual
Commemorating Jephthah’s Daughter
Join us for this new ritual for women which honors the
memory of Jephthah’s daughter, a nameless woman who,
according to the biblical book of Judges, was sacrificed
by her warrior father to fulfill a vow he had made to God.
Tanat L’vat Yiftach is a mini-retreat for women to bask in
community and think and talk together about issues of
importance including the connection between patriarchal
religion and violence against women. Come and share a
beautiful ritual led by its creators, including Rabbi
Donna Berman, and enjoy delicious food and great
conversation!

Unity
5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Workshops and Kwanzaa-related activities
7 p.m. - 9 p.m. What is Kwanzaa? Lighting of the Knara,
drum call, libation to the ancestors, paying homage to the
elders. Performances by master dancers and drummers as
well as community participation

A free event sponsored by the Charter Oak Cultural Center,
Sankofa Kuumba, Catholic Family Services, The Village for
Families and Children, Nandi’s Marche and other individual
donors.
Through December 31, 2003, please visit our small
gallery and view the fascinating Jewish Historical Society
photographic exhibit honoring some of Hartford’s greatest
Jewish athletes.

Interfaith Kristallnacht Remembrance
Gather with your neighbors for a candlelight vigil to
remember this night in 1938 when Jewish businesses and
synagogues were vandalized. Come join us to say “no” to
hate crimes and hate in our own day and “yes” to community
and diversity, as we take an approximately 3K candlelight
walk down Main Street in Hartford, starting at Charter
Oak. Following the vigil, please join us back at Charter
Oak for hot soup and warm bread.

Mi, Fary l’anesse
The first of Djbril Diop’s unfinished tryptich, La Franc is
accompanied by two shorts, Picc Mi (Little Bird), the story of two
Dakar street children and Fary l’anesse ( Fary, The Donkey), a fable
about a man who learns that what seems to be too good to be true
usually is.

Dance, Part I
Bare Bones (Twyla Tharp, Look Out!)
On the Move is a three-part conversation/demonstration series
presented by the Charter Oak Cultural Center. In this first
installment, come join other audience members in helping Reba Mehan
choreograph a piece of dance to be performed that evening. You
decide the moves, the music, the tempo. A perfect evening out for
people with control issues :-)

will perform a dance concert based on jazz, classical and
