Jessie’s Community Garden

Jessie’s Community Garden

To honor Jessie Kostin’s memory, her family has established Jessie’s Community Gardens with the support of many friends and family and the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford. Jessie’s Community Gardens combines growing vegetables with social awareness; its purpose is to serve the community in various ways as determined by that community, which could include such things as being used as an education tool, a community-building activity and a therapeutic outlet for volunteers and others.

We are proud to have a Jessie’s Garden at Charter Oak Cultural Center. During the summer, members of the homeless community are hired to take care of the garden, and the food is available for those in need.
