Dean of the Beat of the Street Center for Creative Learning – Part Time

Position Summary:

The Charter Oak Cultural Center is seeking a part-time Dean of the Beat of the Street Center for Creative Learning. Under the direction of the Beat of the Street Director, the BOTS C4CL Dean will be expected to actively and efficiently organize three sessions of classes annually for the Center. The ideal candidate should be motivated, resourceful and flexible, knowledgeable and sympathetic to the needs of those experiencing homelessness. The Dean should have a strong commitment to the mission and goals of Charter Oak and an understanding of the impact art can have on a community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruit students for the Center through active outreach to area shelters, soup kitchens, service providers, libraries, and other similar organizations;
  • Promote the Center to varying interested parties, building and increasing support for program;
  • Survey current students interests for curriculum development;
  • In collaboration with Executive Director and BOTS Director, develop session curriculum;
  • Cultivate existing and potential instructors;
  • Administer all elements of every class in each session, including: coordinating instructor supplies and/or special needs; secure classroom space; ensuring refreshments are obtained; attend every class in each session; act as liaison for instructors; monitor class activity; maintain accurate attendance records; administer student satisfaction surveys; thank class participants and instructors;
  • In collaboration with Executive Director and BOTS Director, plan graduation for those students who qualify (food, entertainment, speakers, robes, programs, press release, etc.)
  • Provide detailed information by established deadlines for marketing purposes, such as brochure and social media content;
  • Work collaboratively with entire staff and with all instructors and students.

Qualifications:

  • Patience and comfort in dealing with a diverse range of people;
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, meet deadlines and work independently;
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, including planning and setting priorities;
  • Ability to work effectively with various individuals, as well as balance and prioritize multiple requests;
  • Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative and good judgment;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and internet

Development Director – Part Time

Position Summary

The Charter Oak Cultural Center is seeking a part-time Development Director to work with the Executive Director and Development Committee of Charter Oak’s Board in execution of various fundraising initiatives.
Responsibilities
Support the Executive Director with all fundraising initiatives, including:

  • Developing and cultivating donor/funding prospects
  • Manage a multi-year capital campaign
  • Special fundraising event planning and execution
  • Manage annual campaigns
  • Communicating with individual and corporate donors
  • Managing all elements of high donor relationships
  • Processing donor communications including renewal letters, thank you letters, new donor mailings, solicitation mailings
  • Aid in creating fundraising-specific marketing materials
  • Playing key role in the Annual Gala
  • Conceptualize, plan and execute dynamic, mission-centered activities and events for individual donor prospects and renewals (e.g. ”ask” breakfasts, house parties, donor recognition receptions) in partnership with board and event committees that raise funds, awareness and visibility of the organization
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, meet deadlines and work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, including planning and setting priorities
  • Ability to work effectively with various individuals, as well as balance and prioritize multiple requests
  • Experience with data base management
  • Computer technology proficient with internet and MS Office programs
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and five years fundraising or sales experience required
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization is preferred
  • Experience managing a capital campaign is preferred
