The rich cultural traditions of India will be celebrated in Traversing Traditions / India at Charter Oak Cultural Center, beginning September 22.
Traversing Traditions / India is a month-long celebration of Indian music, visual arts, dance and film. High-caliber performing artists will present both traditional and contemporary classical music and dances of India. The visual and media arts segments redefine notions of the “contemporary” through an amalgamation of traditional, indigenous, popular, and current art practice by both Indian and Western artists. Taken as a whole, Traversing Traditions / India explores the interconnected nature of India’s arts.
The Traversing Traditions / India panel discussion conversation will center on Indian art in general, traditional art, and how traditional art has evolved within today’s art world. There will also be discussion about Indian artists living in the United States and the challenges of keeping traditional arts alive within this country. The panel discussion will feature speakers John Bowles, Kathryn Myers, and Rachna Agrawal, and invite and encourage insight and questions from the audience.
The panel discussion begins in the Charter Oak sanctuary at 7 p.m. on October 13. For more information, call 860.310.2580.
