Gabriela Galarza-Block’s embroidery show, “Apasionada y Loca” (Passionate and Crazy), is inspired by the fragility of life.
About four years ago the artist’s mother was diagnosed with cancer. That inspired her to create work that expressed the legacy of her mother.
She writes: “Some of them are drawings, some had lyrics of songs, some are poetry, some are descriptions, some are just words, and all of them are the genealogy of where I am coming from.”
The text is in Spanish, the language of Argentina, her country of birth.
The artist studied at Manchester Community College, received BFA from the Hartford Art School, and has had numerous shows, including a group show, “51 percent” at the Charter Oak Cultural Center. Her studio is in the Parkville section of Hartford.
