Juneteenth Celebration

June 19, 2015 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Juneteenth

On Friday, June 19, Sankofa Kuumba Cultural Arts Consortium and Charter Oak Cultural Center will present: Juneteenth, From Emancipation to Incorporation, sharing with the community the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Through music, dance, conversation and celebration, we will rejoice in the powerful history of this holiday and bring the whole community together to explore the journey and struggles that African-Americans experience in obtaining freedom and liberty, and preserving rich cultural roots.

Gather at the Ancient Burying Ground near First Church of Christ (Center Church) on Gold street at 5:30 pm. Participants will then walk back to Charter Oak for the celebration.
